William Smith

Hartsville, S.C.

Funeral services for William Raymond (Bill) Smith, Sr. age 82 will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Rev. Joey Colson will officiate. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday 5-7 pm at the funeral home.

Bill was born in Darlington a son of the late Oscar Peavy and Nellie Weatherford Carlton. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church having served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and served on the Emmanuel Christian School Committee. He was retired from CP & L after 32 years of service and was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War. He was a devoted Christian and prayer warrior and a loving husband, father and grandfather and never met a stranger.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Peggy Truett Smith, Hartsville; one son, William Raymond (Billy) (Cindy) Smith, Hartsville; two daughters, Terry S. Boyd and Sherry (Craig) Larrimore, Florence; six grandchildren, Tyler Boyd, Florence, Spencer Boyd, Florence, Joshua Larrimore, Citadel, Claire Larrimore, Florence, Bridgette Smith, Rock Hill and Courtney Smith, Hartsville; one brother, Jack Carlton, and one sister, Grace Odom, Dillon. He was preceded in death by two brothers Charles Hayden Smith and David Peavy and one sister Grace Shirley Wiseman.

Memorials may be made to the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 949 North Marquis Highway, Hartsville, S.C. 29550.
