William Harper Cross, Sr.

Hartsville, SC

     It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. William Harper “Bill” Cross, Sr. Mr. Cross, 71, passed away Monday afternoon, October 14th, 2024, while at MUSC Health – Florence, with his family by his side.

     A native and lifelong resident of Hartsville, Mr. Cross was a son of the late Harper H. Cross & Vasser Cross Green. Bill loved to fish, work in his garden, and enjoyed taking trips. He retired from the State Highway Maintenance Department after 35 years of service. 

     He is survived by his children, Edie Cross (Michael) James and Billy (Kelli) Cross; grandchildren: Laney Cross, Trey (Campbell) James, Taylor James; special nephew, Dalton Gainey; brother, Dal (Donnie Kay) Cross; special friends: Mary Lee Smith, Wesley Smith, and Marin Hans. 

     Preceding him in death was his parents; step-parents, Morris Green and Margaret Cross; siblings, Gloria “Jennie” Cross Davis and Gladys Cross Chapman; wife, Debbie McCaskill Cross; and lifelong friend, Harold Griggs. 

     The family welcomes friends for a time of visitation on Thursday evening, from 5-7 at Norton Funeral Home.

     In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society at PO Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
