William Barefoot

November 17, 1938 — June 18, 2017

Mr. William Glen “Rabbit” Barefoot, 78, of Hartsville, went home to be with The Lord on Sunday evening, June 18th, 2017, at home surrounded by his family.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday in Cedar Creek Baptist Church. Reverend Jeff Williams, Rev. Grover Johnson, and Elder George Barefoot will officiate with burial following in the church cemetery. The family will be receiving friends Tuesday evening, from 5-7 p.m. at Norton Funeral Home. The family is also visiting with friends at the home of Missy & Craig Foster, 2220 East Old Camden Road in Hartsville.

Mr. Barefoot was born in Patrick, a son of the late James Curtis & Martha Jordan Barefoot. He retired from Sonoco Products Company on November 30th, 2003 after 34 years of service, was a member of the Old Timers Club, and a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church. He was a humble man who dearly loved his family.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Helen Joyce Johnson Barefoot of the home; children: Joey (Bonnie) Barefoot, Missy (Craig) Foster, Becky (Wayne) Atkinson, Nicole Barefoot, April Smith, all of Hartsville; grandchildren: Todd Barefoot, Jr., Aeriel Byrd, Kateland Morrell, Chelsea Atkinson, Maegean Foster, Austin Barefoot, and Avery Smith; great-grandchildren: Chad Barefoot, Caden Byrd, Braxton Spann, and AJ Powell; siblings: George (Yvonne) Barefoot, Alice (Neil) Perdue, and Teresa Brigman; he is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, a special uncle, Henry “Snooky” Jordan; a special cousin, Evelyn Talbert; and his loving and faithful companion, Gracie the cat.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Todd Barefoot, Sr., siblings: Lois Gainey, Sid Barefoot, and Tootsie Gainey.

The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to Dr. R. Mac Chapman and all the staff with Hospice Care of South Carolina for their loving and tender care.
