Mr. William Alfred “Freddie” McLaughlin, Jr., 77, of Hartsville, passed away Friday evening, August 3rd, 2018, at Carolina Pines with his family at his bedside.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday in Bethune Baptist Church. Reverend Charlie Short will officiate with burial to follow in Brannon Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mr. McLaughlin was born in Bethune; a son of the late William Alfred, Sr. & Vera Tiller McLaughlin. Freddie was an avid sports fan, athlete and coach who established the Dixie Youth Program in Bethune. Even after his health no longer allowed him to be active in the game, he still remained a loyal fan. He was a man who loved his family dearly and took providing for them seriously. Freddie was never afraid of hard work and trying new business opportunities.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Betty Stokes McLaughlin of the home; son, Perry McLaughlin and wife, Tina of Concord, North Carolina, daughters: Karen Robeson and husband, Bob of Chesterfield, Mitzi Kiehl and husband, Ryan of Waxhaw, North Carolina; grandchildren: Ryan McLaughlin, Reece McLaughlin, Bailey Davis, Brenna Davis, Conner Robeson, Cooper Kiehl, Cameron Kiehl, and Colson Kiehl; sisters, Maxie Jewell Matthews and Vivian Powell; and his beloved dog, Rosie.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
