Wilbur Tom Hodges, Jr.

August 15, 1930 — March 27, 2021

Mr. Wilbur Tom Hodges, Jr., 90, of Summerton, South Carolina, passed away Saturday, March 27th, 2021, while at home with his family.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 on Monday morning, May 3rd, 2021, from Summerton Baptist Church.

He was born in  Sanford, Florida, but a native of Hazel Park, Michigan. Mr. Hodges was a son of the late Wilbur T., Sr. & Annie Nichols Hodges.  Tom proudly served our country in the United States Army and was a Veteran of the Korean War.  He was a very hard worker who once owned his own business while in Hazel Park, Michigan.  Being an outdoorsman, he greatly enjoyed hunting of any kind; he held the South Carolina state record for catching the largest alligator in the state.  Tom never met a stranger and always kept a positive outlook on life.

Surviving are his children, Gerald Eugene (Barbara) Hodges of Clawson, MI and Alice Faye Doolin of Summerton, SC; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Elizabeth Melton Hodges; and a daughter, Mary Ann Hodges Lawrence.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Summerton Baptist Church at 215 Main Street, Summerton, South Carolina 29148.
