On Sunday, June 4,2023, Heaven gained another angel when Vonciel Hendrix Holloman passed away peacefully. Everyone who knew her saw her kind and loving soul.
Born and raised in the farming community of Byrdtown on Nov. 2, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Eula Hendrix. She was married to her beloved husband Glenn Gerald Holloman and shared a lifetime partnership of 68 years that produced one son Allan Holloman (Bridget) (Judy Ann, deceased) and three daughters Pam Allison (Dick), Chrystal Rafferty (Brian, deceased) and Dawn Crawford (Bill).
Vonciel took so much pride and pleasure in always serving a big meal at her big table every Sunday to her family and often friends gathered around as well. Known as Von to her friends, she was simply NaNa to her grandchildren who took such delight in her playfulness with them. She would pretend to be a sizzling piece of bacon frying or a flapping bird flying just to get them laughing.
Ever the peacemaker, Von always said she was both a Clemson and a Carolina Fan because family members support both. She also always told each child and grandchild: YOU are my main squeeze! Her vivacious spirit carried through her many roles as wife, mom, sister, aunt, and friend and of course as NaNa. All who know her will miss her unconditional love and care, constant guidance and her beautiful zest for life.
Always cooking from an early age, she began a catering business 50 plus years ago that soon expanded to catering all over Hartsville and surrounding communities. She touched the lives of many brides and party givers with her bountiful spreads of food and beautiful cakes.
Vonciel never let anything get in the way of her cooking, even cooking outside during a hurricane.
She was very involved with Kelleytown Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School classes, but also fixed meals at church.
Vonciel is survived by the following grandchildren:
Meredith Askins (Kirk), Allan Holloman (Miranda), Richard Allison (Francesca), Dunkin Allison (Courtney), Morgan Flowers (Stephen),
Elizabeth Ostrowski, (Andrew), William Crawford, Hugh Rafferty, Ashley Clark, Reed Blackwell (Teniele), and Seth Blackwell (Ashley).
Surviving Great Grandchildren are:
Laney Askins, Andrew Askins, Lan Holloman, Luke Holloman, James Allison, Jack Allison, Anna Crawford Flowers, Thomas Flowers, Banks Flowers, Hunter Clark (Haley), Haley Clark, Shelly Blackwell, Laney Blackwell, Tanner Blackwell, McClain Blackwell, and Crew Blackwell
The following siblings preceded Von in death:
Mary Elizabeth Hendrix, Odessa Hendrix, Mae O’Neal, Dorothy Dillon, Sue Lee McManus, Buddy Hendrix and Pete Hendrix
Two living siblings are sister Belva Prozzi (Gino) and brother Bill Hendrix.
She is also survived by a loving special neighbor and friend, Joyce Johnson.
The family will receive visitors from 5-7 pm at the residence of Allan Holloman at 2852 Anglers Avenue on Thursday, June 8, 2023.
Funeral Service will be held at Kelleytown Baptist Church at 2 pm on Friday, June 9th, 2023, directed by Norton Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis TN 38101 or to the Hartsville Soup Kitchen.
Norton Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to be serving the Holloman family.
