Thomas Kelly McDonald

Thomas Kelly McDonald, age 51, beloved husband of Nichole Price McDonald passed away Tuesday, February 28^th, 2023 at his home surrounded by loving family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer.

Thomas was born in Charlotte, NC, a son of the late Glenn Malcom McDonald and Patricia Scearce McDonald.  He was a licensed funeral director for over 30 years and was a proud member of the SCFDA.  While he has worn many hats within the funeral community, his most recent position with Funeral Directors Life brought him tremendous joy and pride.  He felt a deep connection with his company’s mission to enhance the funeral industry and was proud to be part of a company deeply rooted in Christian values and beliefs.

Thomas was a member of Lexington Presbyterian Church and treasured his small group there.  He was a man of strong faith and witnessed to many the love and grace of Jesus Christ.  He firmly believed the words of Proverbs 27:17, “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.”  Thomas had a servant’s heart and was known for always thinking of others before himself.  He prayed his life and his struggles would be a testimony to the unending love of our Lord and Savior.

Thomas enjoyed spending time with family and friends, hunting, fishing, and boating on Lake Murray in the summer.  He loved the crisp mountain air and enjoyed traveling to new places. By far, his greatest joy was spending time with his wife and daughters whom he fiercely loved.   Thomas was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his 2 daughters, Hollis Kelly McDonald of Lexington, SC and Caroline Close Robertson of Selma, NC. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents Leland and Pearl McDonald and Thomas and Grace Scearce. 

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 7^th, 2023 at 11:00 am at Lexington Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Charles Parker officiating.  Entombment will follow at Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church Cemetery in West Columbia, SC.  The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm on Monday, March 6^th, 2023 at Lexington Presbyterian Church.

Pallbearers will be Jesse Reynolds, Wayne Jordan, Scott Shull, Jeff Temples, Mark Rheinlander, Phillip Smoak, Bryan Baldwin and Kevin Poston.  Honorary Pallbearers will be fellow funeral directors.

Memorials may be made to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
