Mr. Starling Odell “Shane” Stokes, Jr., age 48, of Bethune, South Carolina passed away suddenly Friday evening, May 13th, 2022, while at MUSC Health - Florence Medical Center.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 on Friday morning, May 20th, 2022, from the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery of Bethune with Reverend Larry Humphries officiating. The family will be receiving friends Thursday evening, May 19th, 2022, from 5-7 at Norton Funeral Home of Hartsville.
Born May 14, 1973, in Hartsville, South Carolina, Shane was the son of Mary Angela Hoover and Starling Odell Stokes, Sr.
Shane was an avid outdoorsman. He spent many of his days at the Stokes family farm hunting and on the water fishing. He also loved shooting pool and playing cards with his friends, cheering on the Clemson Tigers, riding his Harley, and cooking a feast for his friends and family to enjoy.
While he was able, Shane owned a landscaping business caring for properties of many businesses and homes. Previously, he worked in construction on an array of projects from framing houses to constructing canopies for buildings. He preferred to spend his time outside and chose work that allowed him to be outdoors.
As a person, Shane was a provider. He had a big heart. He loved his family and his friends. He would do anything he could to help those near and dear to him.
Shane is survived by his mother, Mary Angela Hoover of Bethune, SC; father Starling Odell Stokes, Sr. of Bethune, SC; brothers James “Shawn” (Stephanie) Stokes and their children Gabriel and Shiloh of Lugoff, SC; Treze (Claire) Stokes of Charlotte, NC; Brandon (Loree) Stokes and their daughter Tinley of Camden SC; sister, DeAnna Blackwell and her son Kamden of Bethune, SC; children: David Johnson of Hartsville, SC, Christopher Stokes of New Jersey and Ashlie Stokes of Florence; grandchildren, Blake Johnson, Madison Johnson, Peyton Johnson of Kingstree, SC; girlfriend Kelly Alexander of Florence, SC; and honorary nephews, Hunter Gilbert and Tyler Gilbert of Bishopville, SC.
