Mrs. Sandy (Mimi) Matuse, 67, of Hartsville, South Carolina, the wife of Larry Matuse, passed peacefully with her family on July 10, 2024. A Memorial Service to honor her life will be held on July 13th, at 4 pm at Savannah Advent Christian Church, officiated by Rev. John Gallagher. Before the memorial, the family will receive friends from 2 to 3:30 in the Savannah fellowship hall.
Sandy was born on February 24, 1957, the daughter of the late Bobby and Ada Mae Johnson. Mimi was passionate about her faith and family. She enjoyed nightly golf cart cruises through the country with her husband, Larry, and her heart was most full when the church pew was filled with her children and grandchildren. As an active member of Savannah Advent, she introduced the Awana Program, a children's ministry where the community's children could grow to know, love, and serve our Lord Jesus Christ. Sandy was deeply cherished by many. Every aspect of her life was rooted in unwavering faith. She stood with Christ as her foundation, a steadfast rock she openly shared with everyone she encountered. Whether spreading the gospel joyfully, offering heartfelt prayers for loved ones, or standing in the gap for others, Mimi epitomized the spirit of Corinthians 13:4-7. To know her was to know Jesus. Her patience and kindness knew no bounds. She harbored no envy, nor did she boast. Instead, she esteemed others above herself, serving tirelessly and forgiving unconditionally. Her heart danced with joy in the presence of truth, constantly shielding, always hoping, and enduring with unwavering determination. Sandy Matuse: Our Beloved Mimi.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Matuse; her sisters, Wanda Pierce (Danny Pierce and children) and Bobbie Grantham (Vern Grantham and children); her children, Risha Rhodes, Wil Rhodes, Kellie Doriety (Brad Doriety), and Stacey Gage (Justin Gage); her grandchildren, Kyle Doriety (Logan Doriety), Brianna Stevens, DJ Tolson, Madison Rhodes, Mackenzie Doriety, Bobby Rhodes, MaryMadden Gage, Bridges Teal, Kaiden Doriety, Annabel Gage, Sarabeth Atkinson, and Piper Teal; and her great-grandchildren, Lilliana Caddell, Wade Caddell, Jayce Wood, and Fallon Caddell, as well as her many adopted grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved son Rickey Rhodes, daughter Kimber Atkinson, and grandson Bayler Teal.
A heartfelt appreciation goes to her family at Savannah Advent Christian Church for their fellowship and guidance throughout Mimi’s life.
Thank you to all the visitors from her family to friends, and special friends from Duke energy. Special thanks to McLeod Hospice for their loving care of Mimi.
