Graveside services for Sara McCutchen Burgess age 91 will be held Monday May 21 at 9:30 am at Oak Hill Cemetery in Washington, D.C. directed by Norton Funeral Home, Bishopville.

Ms. Burgess was born in Bishopville a daughter of the late Robert Calvin McCutchen, Sr. and Lena Rivers Johnson McCutchen. After High School graduation she moved to Washington, DC to work for the FBI. She graduated from George Washington University and worked for 47 plus years in Federal Government, US Department of Labor, Personnel. She was a member of the National Presbyterian Church where she was involved in SEC, held offices of Deacon and Elder. She was Clerk of Session and later in life she attended John Calvin Presbyterian Church. She was very involved in church activities. She enjoyed dancing, skiing, bike riding and attending theater with her friends. She loved the beach, going with family and friends.

Surviving are one brother, Francis W. “Pete” McCutchen, Rye, N.Y.; nieces, Lena Rivers McCutchen and Leila E. McCutchen, Bishopville; nephews, Robert C. McCutchen, III and wife Julie, Hartsville and Peter Blake McCutchen and wife Tammy, Arlington, VA; great nephew, Jay McCutchen and great niece, Amy B. McCutchen; step son, Craig Burgess, Bethesda, MD. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert C. McCutchen, Jr., sister in laws, Amy F. McCutchen and Jean Blake McCutchen.
