Sandra Gainey Short

Sandra G. Short, age 63, of Hartsville, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on the morning of October 18, 2024. She was the beloved daughter of the late Letitia Ann Steen and Edward Gainey.

A devoted mother and grandmother, Sandra took immense pride in her children’s accomplishments and found boundless joy in her grandchildren, who were the shining light of her life. She cherished every moment spent with family, enjoyed traveling, and loved catching up with friends. For over 20 years, she dedicated herself to her role at the BeeRite convenience store, where she not only built lasting friendships but also exemplified a strong work ethic that inspired all who knew her.

In a beautiful twist of fate, Sandra rekindled her relationship with her first love, Joel, and they recently celebrated their one-year wedding anniversary. The love they shared brought her immense happiness, and she cherished every moment together. A passionate Atlanta Braves fan, Sandra delighted in watching the games with Joel, cheering and passionately rooting for her team, whether at home or in the stadium.

Sandra is survived by the husband of the home, Joel Short, her daughter, Christy Purvis (Chris) of Hartsville; her son, Anthony Jones (Betty) of Hartsville; her stepchildren, Joshua Short (Kristy) of John’s Island, Alicia Lucas (David) of North Charleston, and Savannah Flynn (Andy) of Summerville; her brothers, Brian Gainey (Erin) of Currituck, NC, and Eric “Buddy” Gainey (Trudy) of Chesterfield; stepbrothers Rick Steen and William “Bill” Hancock of Hartsville, and stepsister Sherri Washbon of New York. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Hunter “Bug” Purvis, Presleigh “Chunky Monkey” Jones, Preston “Lil Dude” Jones, and Nathaniel Lucas; her lifelong friend, Annette Carr of Bennettsville; as well as four nephews, two nieces, and countless friends who treasured her warmth and love.

Sandra was also preceded in death by her beloved sister, Barbara Gaskins.

The funeral service for Sandra will be conducted at 3:00 on Tuesday afternoon, October 22nd, 2024, from the Chapel of Norton Funeral Home.  Reverend Duane Stegall will officiate with the committal following in Clanton Plains Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
