Sam Goins

Sam William Goins, Sr. 79, husband of Sheryl Brown Goins, died Thursday, November 09, 2017 at his home.

Born July 31, 1938, in Williamsburg County, he was a son of the late Henry P. Goins and the late Maude Burrows Goins. Mr. Goins was a member of Southside Baptist Church and attended Concord Presbyterian Church. He owned and operated Sam’s Service Center on East Liberty Street until his retirement. He was an avid bowler and NASCAR fan

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, four sons, Craig Goins (Faith Ellen), Eddie Newman (Jessica), and Woody Newman (Stacy) all of Sumter, and Walter Goins (Haley) of Hartsville; 14 grandchildren, Kerri, Chase, Stephanie, Patrick, Tyler, Ava, Rowe, Paisley, Rollins, Epps, Maxie, Hunter, Tracy, and Kayden; five great grandchildren; one brother, James Henry Goins of Sumter; four sisters, Alberta Watts of Mississippi, Pat Reese of Texas, Dyanne Curby (J.C.) of Florida, and Ann G. Brown of Florence; and a number of nieces and nephews..

He was preceded in death by a son, Sam W. “Bill” Goins, Jr.; granddaughter, Kaley Goins; and four brothers, Ray Goins, Billy Goins, Pressley Goins and Tommy Goins.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Ed Cheek, and the Rev. Jeffrey Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Concord Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Newman, Billy Fields, Wayne Blackwell, Joey Anderson, Ricky Atkinson, Chuck Brown, and Toby Favor.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of Eddie and Jessica Newman, 437 Haynsworth St.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation to Agape Hospice and special caregivers, Linda Kenny and Rebecca Elmore for the exceptional care they provided.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
