Raeford Clanton, Jr.

Raeford Lee (R.L.) Clanton, Jr. age 87 went home to be with his Lord and Savior on December 27. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Emmanuel Baptist Church. Dr. Ernest Winburn, Rev. Rod Elliott and Mr. Travis Walters will officiate. Burial will be in the Magnolia Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

R.L. was born in Lydia a son of the late Raeford Lee Clanton, Sr. and Fannie Lee Clanton. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Living Hope Sunday School Class, Veteran of the Korean War and retired from DuPont. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved his Lord and the church.

Surviving are his wife, Louise Marshall Clanton, Hartsville; one son, Dr. Rick (Margaret Ann) Clanton, Mt. Pleasant; one daughter, Susan (Carl) Watkins, Hartsville; one sister, Edell Pinner, Hartsville;four grandchildren, Shannon (Chad) Lyerly, Florence, Brad (Errica) Watkins, Charleston, Meredith Bentley, Mt. Pleasant and Dr. Leah Clanton, Sullivan’s Island; six great grandchildren, Beckham Watkins, Charleston, Sylvia Watkins, Charleston, Cade Lyerly, Florence, Josie Lyerly, Florence, Jackson Bentley, Mt. Pleasant and Aiden Bentley, Mt. Pleasant. He was preceded in death by a son, Floyd Anthony Clanton.
