Funeral services for Edward Perry Morris, Sr. age 71 will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Emmanuel Baptist Church. Rev. Jamie St. Ours and Rev. John Hamilton will officiate. Burial will be in New Providence Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be Thursday 5-7 pm at the funeral home.
Perry was born in Hartsville a son of the late Margaret Morris Melton. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, The Living Hope Sunday School Class and owner of Perry Morris Motors. He was an Army Veteran.
Perry proudly served as Machine Gunner for the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. During his service he was awarded the Silver Star for his demonstration of exceptional valor by exposing himself to enemy fire to facilitate the evacuation of a wounded officer.
Upon returning from Vietnam Perry began his career by purchasing his first car hauler. Shortly thereafter he met his loving wife of 48 years, Judy. During their courtship he continued to develop his business by opening his own car dealership. Through many years of dedication, hard work and perseverance he developed both enterprises to provide for his growing family.
Understanding the blessings that had been provided to him, Perry spent countless hours volunteering his time and personal resources at Emmanuel Baptist Church & School. He was often seen mowing the grass on Saturday afternoons or driving the bus to the next school or church activity.
Throughout his life he was a selfless beacon of support and mentorship for his sons, grandchildren, extended family and countless others. His legacy will continue to inspire everyone for many years to come.
Surviving are his wife, Judy McLeod Morris, Hartsville; three sons, Edward Perry (Eddie) (Melissa) Morris, Jr.,Hartsville, Brian (Donna) Morris, Hartsville and Robbie Morris, Columbia; four grandchildren, Brianna Morris, Edward Morris, Caroline Morris and William Morris, all of Hartsville; one great grandchild, Oaklynn Morris, Hartsville; seven siblings, Bruce, Gilbert and Mike Melton, Ronnie Sellers, Gail Faulkenberry, Gregory Sellers and Lisa Hancock; Special Aunt, Willie Faye Morris, Hartsville; Special Niece, Tara King, Hartsville; special family members Edward (Spider) George and Troy Sellers, both of Hartsville. He was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Ricks.
