Madaline Murray Braxton

ALCOLU - It is with profound sadness that Danette (Tray) Way of Alcolu, SC and Brian (Robin) Hurley of Sumter, SC announce the death of their beloved mother, Madaline Murray Hurley Self Braxton, 71, on September 21, 2022.

Mrs. Braxton was the daughter of the late Gay Nell Marshall Murray and the late William Riley "W.R." Murray of Hartsville, SC.

Prior to retirement, she proudly served as the Recycling Coordinator for Clarendon County for many years. Before relocating to Alcolu, SC in 1988, Mrs. Braxton was employed by the Saleeby Family as a dedicated employee of The Southern Candy Kitchen in Hartsville, SC.

Mrs. Braxton is also survived by her grandchildren Jessica "Jessie" (Orry) Hodge of Alcolu, SC; Brittiany Hurley of Hartsville, SC; Paige (Jon) Kaderly of Bremerton, Washington; Kimmie (Shane) McCoy of Sumter, SC; Kenny (Courtney Prebish) McLeod of Sumter, SC; Jennifer (Rudy) Singleton of Sumter, SC; Nick (Shelby DeMarr) Hurley of Waldorf, MD; Shauna (Shaun) Worob of Hill AFB, Utah; Chad (Cheli) Anderson of Alcolu, SC; Bobby (Serina Garcia) Braxton III of Waxahachie, TX; great grandchildren Harper Hodge, Rylie Hodge, Chloyé Fields, Raevyn Russell, Belle Kaderly, McKenzie McLeod, Caleb Yarborough, Maggie Singleton, Kristyan McCoy, Jasmine McCoy, Peyton McCoy, Alana Anderson, Layla Jade Anderson, Delilah Anderson, Colton Braxton, Julian Braxton, Jax Worob, and Scarlet Worob.

Janice (Jimmy) Tart of Dunn, NC also mourns the death of her loving sister.

Upon her death, Mrs. Braxton has been reunited with her late husband, Bobby R. Braxton Sr., her mother and father, her sister, Margaret Ann Newland, and her brother, Riley Eugene Murray.

She was a fan of Elvis Presley and Josh Turner and will be missed greatly by her fur baby "Lucy".

Mrs. Braxton is also survived by a son, Matthew Hurley of Hanover, PA and the adult children of her late husband, Tammy Braxton and Randy (Melissa) Braxton.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Alcolu, SC officiated by Matt Spigner. The family will receive friends (lunch will be provided) immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall and other times at the home of her son, Brian (Robin) Hurley, 2361 US Highway 521 South, Sumter, South Carolina 29153.

A private burial will be held in Hartsville, SC at a later date.
