Mr. James Newsome

Mr. James Thomas “Jim” Newsome, Sr., 72, of Hartsville, passed away Sunday, January 1st. 2017, at home surrounded by his family.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday in the Chapel of Norton Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Mike Gunter. Burial with military honors provided by Fort Jackson will follow in Magnolia Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Jim was born in Hartsville, a son of the late George “June” Bennett, Jr. & Miriam Andrews Newsome. He trained with the Green Berets to become Military Police and served in the Panama Canal Zone during the Vietnam War. He was also a member of the Shriners.

Survivors include his daughter, Julie Watts and husband, Chris of Fort Mill, James Thomas “Jay” Newsome, Jr., and wife, Stephanie of Hartsville, and Jeffery Newsome of Fort Mill. Grandchildren: Hannah & Jackson Watts, Olivia & John Todd “JT” Newsome, and Allison Newsome. Nephews: Wayne Newsome, Jarrett Dailey, Shand Newsome, and Brad Newsome.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jennifer Tate Newsome; brothers: George Bennett “GB” Newsome, III, and Bascom Frank Newsome, Sr.
