Larry Mitchell McAlister, age 79, of Hartsville, SC, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2025. Born on July 11, 1945, in Hartsville, SC, Larry was the son of the late Ellis McAlister and Elizabeth Calder McAlister.
Larry was a proud graduate of Hartsville High School, class of 1964. After high school, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Piedmont Bible College. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy from 1968 to 1972.
After his military service, Larry dedicated his career to helping others through his work with South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation. He served as an Area Supervisor, overseeing the counties of Darlington, Chesterfield, and Marlboro, making a significant impact on the lives of many in the community. He retired after many years of service, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and care.
Larry had a deep love for his family, and he always found joy in the simple things, whether it was watching football, going to the movies, or spending quality time with his loved ones. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Terri Webb, and a proud father to his sons Kristoffer (Perry) and Gabriel. He was a cherished grandfather to his grandsons Reece and Cullen.
In addition to his wife, sons, and grandsons, Larry is survived by his sister, Connie Raines, who was a constant source of support and love throughout his life.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Ellis McAlister and Elizabeth Calder McAlister, who were always a guiding influence in his life.
The family will receive friends at a visitation to be held at Norton Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5pm - 7pm. There will be a celebration of Larry’s life at Emmanuel Baptist Church at 11am on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Darlington County Humane Society (www.DarlingtonHumane.org)
Larry’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a kind and loving man, and his presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
