Mildred B. Scott

Mrs. Mildred B. Scott, age 77, went home to be with the Lord on February 8, 2025. Known by many as “Ms. Millie” and by others as the “Cake Lady,” Millie loved Jesus and she loved others.

Millie worked for many years in various positions at the Lee County Observer, and most recently at the Lee County Council on Aging. She often volunteered to serve her community and Bishopville, the town she loved.

Though Millie faced many challenging seasons of life, her faith in Jesus Christ held her steady. She prayed and cared deeply for others, and she lived out her faith with generosity and love. Her faith in Jesus was displayed most clearly in her love for her church family, Red Hill Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member.

Millie was born January 9, 1948 to Wilbur and Eliza Brown, and she is preceded in death by her husband Dick Scott, her only brother Billy Brown, her step-daughter-in-law Donna Scott, and her step-grandson Elliot Howard.

Surviving are her two children Stephanie Watson, Bishopville; Stephen Watson (Darci), Anderson; three step-children Jim Scott (Antia), Cathy Strickland (Krom), and Marion Scott; three grandchildren Titus Watson, Molly Watson, Thomas Watson; and step-grandchildren Derrick Atkinson, Stuart Atkinson, Elise McKenzie, Ashley Scott, and Marion Scott Jr, Rayesquel Scott, Milka Scott; two step great-grand children Elliot McKenzie and Deems McKenzie. Millie is also survived by her sister-in-law Sybol Brown and her nephew Derrick Brown (Connie) and two great-grand nephews Dillon Brown and Dayton Brown.

In addition to these, Millie had a special bond with many cousins and nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed and treasured a number of rich friendships throughout the years that are too many to count.

While family and friendships were important to Millie, the relationship she treasured most was her relationship with Jesus Christ. Millie was not ashamed of her faith and was confident Jesus would carry her home to be with him.
