Mildred Sanders

A Celebration of Life Service for Mildred Johnson Sanders, age 84, will be held at 2:00 on Monday December 8, 2014 in the Chapel of Norton Funeral Home. Johnny Tolson will officiate. Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4-6 pm at Norton Funeral Home. Mildred passed away peacefully at her residence on Friday, December 5. She was born August 4, 1930, in Chesterfield County, a daughter of the late Luther LaCoste and Rebecca Winburn Johnson. Mildred attended McBee School and Wingate College. She was retired from A.O. Smith Corporation, was an active member of Middendorf Baptist Church and a gracious servant of the Lord. She deeply loved her family, her church and thoroughly enjoyed her friends. She enjoyed traveling, working in her yard growing beautiful flowers, painting and reading. We will always remember Mildred’s happiness, her positive outlook, her kindness and her loving and giving spirit. She was known for helping her friends and family by way of her actions. Mildred is survived by her daughter, Sheila S. Tolson and her husband Johnny of Hartsville; daughter-in-law, Juana Perez Sanders of Palma, Spain; sister-in-law, Betty Joyce Whitley and brother-in-law, John Wright. She is grandmother of three grandchildren, Angie Tolson Smith and husband Ronnie of Hartsville, Celeste Marie Sanders and Harold Alton Sanders III of Palma, Spain. She is the great-grandmother of Gage Nesbitt, Austin and Montana Smith of Hartsville; several nieces & nephews who called her Mil. Mildred was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years Harold Alton Sanders, Sr. and her son Harold A. Sanders, Jr. She was also preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Wilson Johnson, Jessie C. Johnson, Elizabeth Loflin, Frances Nicholson and Ruth Wright. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Embrace Hospice for the loving care and compassion they provided to Mildred.
