Mrs. Odom was born in Hartsville a daughter of the late James S. Hodge and Fannie Chapman Hodge. She was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church for over 60 years and was the oldest member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. She had 3 things that were a real joy to her. Her family, her flower garden and cooking. All dishes served at (Granny's) had lots of butter and pepper in the recipe.
Fish was usually the main dish served with thick slices of onions and hush puppies.
And let's not forget the homemade chicken and dumplings, also coated with a thick layer of black pepper.
She had the talent of making things grow. Anything that could be planted or put into a flower pot would always thrive.
Surviving is one daughter, Lana Blackmon, Darlington; one son, Jim (Elaine) Odom, Hartsville; one grandson, Rion (Leigh) Odom, Clyde, N.C.; two great grandchildren, Colin Odom, Clyde, N.C. and Rachel Odom, Clyde, N.C.
