Martha Amerson Scurry Risinger

Mrs. Martha Amerson Scurry Risinger, 90, of Bishopville, SC and formerly of Batesburg, SC, passed away Sunday morning, January 14^th, 2024, while at The Retreat at Carolina Bay in Hartsville, SC.

A native of Lamar, Mrs. Risinger was born to the late Clyde & Armetta Kelly Amerson.  Martha loved her children, grandchildren, and especially her great-grandchildren.  She enjoyed working in her yards and cutting her own grass until she was 80 years old.  Martha was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church of Batesburg, SC, a church and church-family she dearly loved. 

Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, Kay (Archie) Amerson of Bishopville, SC and Robert (Lisa) Risinger of Lexington, SC; grandchildren: Enid (Tracy) Hallman, Oren Meetze, Bree Bryant, Shanna (Ryan) Powers, Kasey Risinger; great-grandchildren: Cameron Hallman, Lille Catherine Hallman, William Meetze, Ella Bryant, Kayden Powers, Holden Powers; and a great-great-grandchild, Wes Hallman. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, William Harold Scurry and Charlie O’Neal Risinger; children, W.H. “PeeWee” Scurry, Jr. and Marilyn Scurry; brothers and sisters; and her daughters-in-law, Ginger Scurry and Dawn Risinger.

Her funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 on Tuesday afternoon, January 16^th, 2024, from the Bishopville Chapel of Norton Funeral Home with burial following in the Ashwood Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Alzheimer's Association at PO Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
