Lydia Hinson Jones was born on June 25, 1937 in the Mt. Pisgah community to the late Charlie H. and Mazalee Horton Hinson. She passed away on March 24, 2025, at MUSC Kershaw Health in Camden, South Carolina.
For many years, Lydia and her husband, Delton Franklin Jones, Sr., worked together to operate the local Piggly Wiggly, contributing not only to the community's economy but also to its sense of camaraderie. Her commitment to hard work was matched only by her generosity and kindness. Lydia was known for her giving spirit, always willing to lend a hand or provide support to those in need.
A faithful member of Bethune Baptist Church, Lydia drew strength and solace from her faith, which served as a cornerstone throughout her life. She participated actively in church activities and enjoyed the fellowship of friends especially the ladies in her Sunday School Class.
Lydia's love for her family was profound and unwavering. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Delphania Horton (Robert) of Jefferson; her son, Delton Franklin Jones, Jr. of McBee; and her cherished grandchildren, Franklin Garritt Jones and Jacob Robert Horton. She is also remembered fondly by several nieces and nephews, who felt the warmth of her affection, and Deborah Williams, a special friend and caregiver of almost 30 years. She is also survived by a sister, Mitchalene Rowe (Roger) of Bethune, and her brother-in-law, Don Witham of Bethune.
Lydia is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Delton Franklin Jones, Sr.; her brother, Tony Hinson; and her sister, Francine Witham.
A graveside service to honor Lydia will take place on March 28, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Bethune Baptist Church Cemetery, located at Jefferson Davis Hwy/Waters Rd, Bethune, SC, along with a visitation following the services.
Lydia Hinson Jones will be lovingly remembered for her selflessness, spirited personality, and the deep love she had for her family, friends.
