Funeral services for Lavone Futrell were held on Monday, July 4, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Ricks-Bowers Funeral Home in Jewett. Bro. Jon Barrett officiated. Interment followed the services at Jewett Cemetery.
Ms. Futrell passed away on Friday, July 1, 2022, at the Freestone Medical Center in Fairfield.
She was born in Hartsville, South Carolina, to Cleve & Annie Smith on September 21, 1937. Lavone grew up in Hartsville and married and moved to Jewett with her husband’s job at Nucor. She was always a worker and managed Bob’s Exxon in Jewett for many years before working for Leon ISD in the cafeteria and finally working for Walmart in the shipping department until her retirement.
Lavone enjoyed watching baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves, crocheting, and reading. She read her Bible every morning and was a member of the Pentecostal Faith.
She is survived by five children, Carol Ann Barrett of Palestine, Van Futrell of Hartsville, SC, Andy Futrell & wife Cheryl of Jewett, Sherry Stewart & Mike Moreno of Rockdale, and Sharon Duke & husband Tommy of Nacogdoches; twelve grandchildren, Jon Barrett & wife Lyndi, Carrie Fields & husband Cody, Heather Lynn Barrett, Katelyn Futrell, Kyle Futrell & wife Tori, Kacie McCune & husband Garret, Clayton Noey, Cleve Noey, Megan VanDyke & husband Shane, Walker Goad, Morgan Nix & husband Rusty, and Kullen Duke & wife Autumn; other relatives and friends.
Ms. Futrell was preceded in death by her parents, Cleve & Annie Smith; her baby brother, Andrew Smith, and one son-in-law, Parris Barrett.
