Laurie Powers Sansbury, Sr.

Mr. Laurie Powers Sansbury, Sr., 83, of Hartsville, passed away Thursday afternoon, February 13th, 2020, while at the McLeod Hospice House.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 on Tuesday afternoon, February 18th, 2020, from Florence Memorial Gardens with Reverend Danny Pierce officiating.  The family will be receiving friends following the service at the graveside.

A native of Florence, he was a son of the late Stephen Ira & Elsie Power Sansbury.  Laurie was an electrician who loved any type of electronics.  He worked with CP&L and later with the City of Bennettsville.  One of his favorite hobbies was going to eat with the “breakfast group.”  Laurie also greatly loved his dogs.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara Cross Sansbury of the home; son, Laurie P. (Tammy) Sansbury, Jr. of Pensacola, Florida; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a step-daughter, Crystal J. (Ryan) Cox; step-grandson, Matthew Cox; 2 beautiful granddaughters, Sarah & Caroline Gainey; son-in-law, Chris Gainey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Josephine "Jo" Pridgen Sansbury; and daughters, Elizabeth “Beth” Gainey & Suzanne "Susie" Sansbury, brother Stephen I. (Sandy) Sansbury, Jr., stepson, Eddie Johnson.

Due to his love of animals, the family requests that memorials be made to the Darlington County Humane Society at PO Box 1655, Hartsville, South Carolina 29551 or the Shriners Hospital for Children at 2900 North Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Florida 33607.
