Leon Yates, a beloved member of the Hartsville community, passed away on January 15, 2025, in his hometown of Hartsville, South Carolina. Born on December 27, 1954, Leon had a remarkable career in the Nuclear sector and with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), where he made significant contributions throughout his working life.

A proud alumnus of Hartsville High School and Wingate College, Leon's dedication to his education laid a strong foundation for his future endeavors. He was known not only for his professional accomplishments but also for his passion for life and the great outdoors. His love for working in his yards brought him much joy.

Leon leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy that will be honored by those who knew him. He is survived by his brother, Christopher B. Yates of Hartsville. In addition to his family, Leon was fortunate to have close friendships that enriched his life. Special friends Rick Griggs, Faith Howle, Sylvia Watkins, and William "Bud" Casper will forever hold dear the moments they shared and the impact Leon had on their lives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Rhoades Yates and Ann Hope Bunch Yates, who will always be remembered as integral figures in his life.

A visitation honoring Leon's life will take place on Sunday, January 19, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM at Norton Funeral Home And Crematory in Hartsville, located at 1414 West Carolina Avenue, SC 29550.
