Johnny Clifton Goode

Johnny Clifton Goode, age 81 of Hartsville, South Carolina departed on Friday, April 14.  He was surrounded by loving family in his home at the time of his passing.

Johnny was born on December 15, 1941, in Waynesboro, Virginia, to Homer Clifton Goode and Belver Graves Goode.  He was the third of five boys.

Johnny graduated from Nelson County High School in 1959.  While in high school he was active in the Junior Red Cross and the Future Farmers of America.  He also played football and was a standout on the school track team. During his senior year he served as class president and was voted Most Popular.

Following high school, Johnny joined the United States Air Force, serving from 1959 to 1962.  A portion of that time was spent as flightline crew chief at Seymour-Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, NC.  Experience in the Air Force prepared Johnny for his first post-service job with Delta Airlines in Atlanta, Georgia.

In 1965 Johnny returned to Goldsboro, North Carolina, taking a job with Carolina Power & Light.  Through a career that spanned the next 30 years, Johnny worked at CP&L plants in Roxboro, Lumberton, and Hartsville, South Carolina, before returning to the Lee Plant in Goldsboro at the close of his career in 1994.

Never one to sit idle, Johnny went to work as a project manager for Moree-Ollis-Roach (MOR) Power Plant Maintenance (PPM) – an EMCOR Company - of Society Hill, South Carolina in 1996.   This occupation would develop into a second career of twenty-six years., carrying Johnny to all parts of the country until his second retirement in 2021.

Outside of work, Johnny filled his life with many enjoyable pursuits.  He was skilled with his hands and was known for making constant improvements to his home or completing various projects.  No task was too large, and he was always eager to put his knowledge and skills to work on behalf of others.  At various times in his life, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and NASCAR, but was always happiest when given the opportunity to socialize with friends and family.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Homer & Belver Goode, and brothers Wallace Homer Goode, James Carlton Goode, and Franklin Lee Goode.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Stewart Goode.  Johnny & Susie married on February 19, 1993, and recently celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary.
