Mr. John Leland Bullard Sr. passed at his home Saturday morning. He was the son of Eloise Bullard and the late Major Duvall Bullard. Leland was born in Darlington County and was a life long resident of the Middendorf Community. Mr. Bullard was a graduate of McBee High School. After graduation he enlisted and faithfully served his country in the United States Coast Guard. He was a Paramedic for many years and devoted countless hours to the American Red Cross teaching Emergency CPR/First Aid and training First Responders. He was employed by Superior Machine where he worked for 20 years.
Leland married the love of his life, Rita Bullard on August 29, 2003. His love for his wife, children, and grandchildren was tremendous and he always enjoyed spending time with them. He would drop everything to lend a helping hand for those in need and could often be found riding his tractor in the fields, wearing his overalls. Surviving are his wife, Rita Bullard (Middendorf); children: Karen Bullard )Casey Hodge), (Middendorf), Dr. John Leland “Lee” Bullard Jr. (Anne Flannery), (Columbia), Jessica Parler (BJ Ruddy), (Summerville), April White, and Randall Turnage (Hartsville); 11 grandchildren: Aiden, Michael, Aubreigh, Leighlynn, Caroline, Oliver, Nathan, Jase, Davis, Gavin, and Emily; sisters: Nancy (Ron) Shearer and Terretta (Teejay) Vernarsky of Hartsville; and brother: Mark (Debbie) Bullard, Middendorf. He was preceded in death by his father and his infant sister Lorretta Bullard.
Services will be held on Tuesday at 5:00pm from the Middendorf Baptist Church. Rev. Beau Boyle, Rev. Don Rhyne and Rev. Danny Holley will officiate. Burial will be in the Middendorf Baptist Church Cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation of Remembrance will be held one hour prior to the services.
Memorials may be sent in lieu of flowers to the to Middendorf Baptist Church Building Fund that will be designated to covering the handicap ramp.
