Joanne Zeigler Gold, 79, of Hartsville SC passed away peacefully on March 1, 2023 after a battle with Alzheimer’s.
She was born to Maude Hendrix and William Joseph Zeigler on September 8, 1943 in Hartsville, SC. Joanne graduated from Hartsville High School and went on to study at Coker University Class of 1963. After graduating, she moved to Columbia to work for Southern Bell as a switchboard operator and then as a secretary with the SC Department of Mental Health, as well as the Pee Dee Mental Health Center.
Joanne is survived by her two children: Scott (Leah) Wild, of Irvine CA and Tiffany (Jason) Bryant, of Houston TX and her five grandchildren; Annie Lou (12), Crosby (10), Apollo (8), Jack (6), and Mila (5), whom her love had no limits. She is also survived by her devoted brother, Jerry (Mary Ruth) Zeigler of Hartsville SC and predeceased by her beloved brother, Charles “Ray” (Alice Jayne) Zeigler, also of Hartsville SC. She was loved by many nieces and nephews, both on Earth and in Heaven.
At every stage in her life, Joanne wowed listeners with her gift of music; she never met a piano she didn’t want to play. She loved her family and friends much the same way she loved her garden; generously and always with a concern for how they were growing in life. She was constantly working with her hands; whether that was sewing, putting together a puzzle, digging in the dirt, cooking, crafting, or writing a letter to a loved one. She loved the Lord; she poured her time and energy into Swift Creek Baptist Church, where she attended since childhood. She was an active member of OASIS, and found that her faith in God is what kept her heart strong and brave until the very end.
The family would like to acknowledge the exceptional care she received from her nurse Charlene with Devotion Hospice, the amazing staff and caregivers at Unlimited Care Cottages, as well as Pee Dee Gardens, particularly the special relationship she formed with Jeanne, the Activities Director. They would also like to thank her angel on Earth, Gwen Moore, for all she did for Mama and our family during her fight with dementia.
Please join us in celebrating her life at Swift Creek Baptist Church at 413 N Center Rd, Hartsville, SC on Saturday March 25th 2023 at 2:00 pm with a visitation to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
