It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Mr. Jimmy Melvin "Mel" Byrd, Jr.

Mel age 55 passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 while at the McLeod Hospice House in Florence, SC.  He was born in Hartsville, the son of the late Jimmy Melvin Byrd, Sr. and Peggy Coyt Johnson Byrd.  Mel was a talented auto repair man, he enjoyed helping his friend Rev. Jeff Williams with these skills over the last few years.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Kinsey Byrd Johnson (Jeff), Hartsville; son, Jimmy "Cody" Byrd, Hartsville; sister, Joy Howle (Chad), Hartsville; grandson, Preston Johnson, Hartsville; nephews, Rylan Howle and Drake Howle, Hartsville.

Memorial services will be held 2:00pm Thursday, at the Cedar Creek Baptist Church, a time of visitation will follow the services at the church.  Rev. Jeff Williams will officiate.  Norton Funeral Home is honored to be of service to the Byrd family.
