James Thurmon Hicks

Services for Mr. James Thurmon Hicks age 67 will be held Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 2:00pm at Greenhill Church of God of Prophecy.  Pastor Jerry Gainey will officiate with burial in the church cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.  Visitation will be held on Friday 6:00-8:00pm at the funeral home.

Thurmon passed away on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at McLeod Health in Florence, SC.  He was born in McFarlan Township, Anson County, NC the son of the late Leslie Harrison and Annabelle Hall Hicks.  He was a member of Greenhill Church of God of Prophecy, he retired from Galey and Lord after 45 years of service.  He coached at the Northern League Baseball field for many of years.  Thurmon was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Kay Henry Hicks, Hartsville; daughter, Karen (Bud) Dority, Hartsville; son, James (Tracy) Hicks, McBee; grandchildren, Brad Dority, Victoria Hicks, Taylor Hicks; honorary grandchildren, Aaron Boykin, Jacob Parker, McKayla Jacobs, Eli Parker, Heather Gainey, Lee Gainey;  sisters, Mable Hicks Evans, Hazel Park, MI, Bonnie Gainey, Hartsville; brothers, Carroll Hicks, Hartsville, Larry Hicks, Sr., Hartsville.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Catherine Miller, Nell Flowers, Margie Gainey, Vera Lee Wallace, Shelvie Jean Boykin and Margaret Hicks; brother, Leslie “Pete” Hicks.

The family has requested that memorials be made to Greenhill Church of God of Prophecy, 3945 Middendorf Road, Hartsville, SC 29550.
