James Heyward Kelley

Mr. James Heyward Kelley, age 95, passed away Wednesday April 19, 2023, while a resident at Morrell Nursing Center in Hartsville.

Graveside services will be held Friday at 2:00 at the Kelleytown Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home. Rev. Charles McLendon will officiate. A visitation will be held following the service at the cemetery.

Heyward was the third child of six born to the late Jacob Graham Kelley and the late Irene Grantham Kelley of the Kelleytown Community near Hartsville. Heyward lived most of his life in Kelleytown and worked in maintenance at Byerly Hospital and then at the Kendall Company until he retired. Later he worked in the used car business in Hartsville for several years.

Surviving is his partner, Freddie Andrews of their home in Florence; one daughter, Jan Kelley (Donald Ray) Horton, McBee; one son, Eddie (Joanne) Kelley, Cherry Grove; five grandchildren, Gabe (Rebecca) Newsome, Florida, Lee (Trina) Newsome, Hartsville, Chastity (Ritchie Walters) Sanders, Hartsville, Steven (Ashley) Horton, Hartsville and Kevin (Cammie) Horton, McBee; eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Segars Kelley; one daughter, Sybil Kelley (Eugene) Jones, Hartsville; five siblings, Martha, Frank, Robert, Jennings and Delmus.
