James Allen Griggs

James Allen Griggs, age 87, of Wallace, South Carolina went to his Heavenly Home on October 5 at McLeod Health in Cheraw. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday October 8 at 5:00 at the Wallace Church of the Nazarene directed by Norton Funeral Home, Hartsville. Dr. D. Moody Gunter and Pastor Bobby Norris will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at a later date at the Chatham Hill Cemetery in Cheraw.

Mr. Griggs was born in Marlbobo County, South Carolina a son of the late Joseph Randolph Griggs, Sr. and Naomi Smith Griggs. He was a Charter member of the Wallace Church of the Nazarene and was a faithful supporter throughout his life. He worked at James Fabrics in Cheraw, S.C. for 21 years. Mr. Griggs life was characterized by a strong faith in God and People. He always had a kind word and smile for everyone.

Mr. Griggs is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Pearl Parnell Griggs. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Ashley Griggs McDaniel (James Harold, Jr.) of Moncks Corner, S.C.; grandsons, Allen and Robert (Caitlyn) Griggs, Wallace, S.C.; two great granddaughters, Addison and Emma Kate McDaniel; two sisters, Virginia Griggs Taylor, Irmo, S.C. and Rev. Dr. Nina Griggs Gunter of Nashville, TN and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Griggs was preceded in death by his sons, Allen and Joe Griggs and several brothers and sisters.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wallace Church of the Nazarene, 3610 SC 177, Wallace, S.C. 29596 or to a Charity of One’s Choice.
