James Gainey

Funeral services for James Lavelle (Jimmy) Gainey age 75, US Army Retired, will be held Sunday at 3:00 at the Chapel Norton Funeral Home. Burial with Full Military Honors will be in Westview Cemetery. Rev. Terry Gunnells will officiate. Family will be receiving friends at 929 Deer Run, Hartsville and the visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Jimmy was born in Hartsville a son of the late Lester Charles & Gladys Hawkins Gainey. He attended the Church of Christ, was retired from the US Army after 22 years of service, member of the DAV, VFW and the American Legion. He served three tours of duty in Vietnam, received the Purple Heart and many other awards during his service to his Country. He received an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice at Richmond County TEC and in Business from Florence-Darlington TEC.

Surviving are his wife, Judy Lear Gainey, Hartsville; four sons, Peter (June) Gainey, Columbia, Jerry (Dianne) Gainey, Bethune, Jeff (Deena) Gainey, Hartsville and Joe (Erin) Gainey, McCall; one daughter, Mary Ann (James) Brabham, Rembert; one sister, Butch (John) Coates, Hartsville; one brother, Charles (Emily) Gainey, Campobello; an abundance of Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Paul Lavelle Gainey.
