James Dampier, Sr

Hartsville, S.C.

Funeral services for James Edward Dampier, Sr. age 83 will be held Friday at 5:00 at Fourth Street Baptist Church. Rev.Tim Skipperwill officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Elon Baptist Church Cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Mr. Dampier was born in Bishopville a son of the late Coker & Winnie Kennington Dampier. He joined the Army in 1958 and was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, worked at Sonoco Products Company in Hartsville for 20 years, attended Florence Darlington Tech and worked at Nucor Steel for 20 plus years where he retired in 1990. He attended the Christian Fellowship Assembly of God in Hartsville. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother.

Surviving are his wife Miriam Wint (Mickie)Dampier, Hartsville; one son, James Edward Dampier, II, Hartsville; four daughters, Angelia (Terry) Morrison, Hartsville; Terie Windham, Lamar; Sherrie (Jeffery) Kaigler, Swansea and Gina (Daryl) Longnecker, Hartsville; two brothers, Charles (Evelyn) Dampier, Hartsville and Mitchell (Barbara) Dampier, Hartsville; three sisters, Brenda Smith, Bishopville, Eloise (Donnie) Welch, Lydia and Louise Dampier, Spartanburg; 13 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother Glenn Coker Dampier. Memorials may be made to Christian Fellowship Assembly of God Church, 736West Carolina Ave. Hartsville, S.C. 29550 or to Calvary Tabernacle Church, 1812 East BoBo Newsom Highway, Hartsville, S.C. 29550.
