Funeral services for CW3 Hollis Monroe Ray, U.S. Army Retired, age 79, will be held Tuesday at 11:00 at the Chapel Norton Funeral Home, Bishopville. Rev. Homer Hinson and Rev. Jeff Williams will officiate. Visitation will be Monday 5-7 pm at the Funeral Home. Burial will be Tuesday at 2:00 at the Ft. Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia.

Monroe was born in Cassatt, a son of the late Wiley & Bonnie Arrants Ray. He was retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service. He was a member of the Sumter Masonic Lodge No. 364 AFM and York Rites. He loved gardening and fishing.

Surviving are one daughter, Jennifer Ray, Bishopville; one son, Matthew Ray, Wildorf, MD; one granddaughter, Mandy Williams, Waldrof, MD; three great grandlchildren; three sisters, Nora Ray, Hartsville, Rosa Hinson, Camden and Irene Ray Hall, Hartsville; two brothers, Joe Ray, Bishopville and Ben Ray, Augusta, GA. He was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Cecil and Daniel Ray.
