Gerald Eugene "Gene" Norris, passed away on August 5, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at McLeod Hospice.
Born on August 15, 1949, in Lamar, SC., Gene was the son of Perry and Evelyn Worley Norris. He dedicated over 40 years as the owner and operator of Hartsville Heating and Air, where he became a symbol of dependability and excellence. His commitment to his craft was evident in every project he undertook.
Gene's passion extended beyond his profession. In his leisure time, he found solace in the great outdoors. He loved nothing more than embarking on hunting expeditions and casting his line while fishing at Elliott's Campground. Engaging with nature brought him immense joy and allowed him to find peace amidst a bustling world.
In addition to his dedication to his career and hobbies, Gene served his country with honor in the United States Army from 1968 to 1972. His military service demonstrates his unwavering patriotism and willingness to sacrifice for the greater good.
Gene leaves behind an enduring legacy of love and devotion. He is survived by Louise Johnson, with whom he shared a faithful companionship spanning over 17 years. His sons Brantley (Stephney) Norris of Lydia and Bradley (Casey) Norris of Florence carry forward their father's values and spirit.
Gene's step-children, Jessica Johnson of Hartsville and Jennifer (Bo) Jaites of Florence, were also touched by his loving presence. Together, their bond formed a strong and interconnected family unit that supported one another in times of joy and sorrow; grandchildren, Charley Grace Norris, Brantley Elise Norris, Cole Norris, Holden Norris, Zachary Blackwell, Matt Melton, Trey Melton, Hunter Chisholm,Ryder Ghoens, Landon Jaite and Rodney Jaite carry the torch of Gene's legacy into the future. His love for them knew no bounds, and they will forever hold a special place in their hearts for their adoring grandfather.
Gene was fortunate to have supportive siblings who shared his journey through life. Edward (Frances) Norris of Greelyville, Timothy (Charlene) Norris of Lydia, and Rose Marie (Cecil) Grooms of Lydia; Annette Moore, Gene's sister-in-law from Hartsville, held a special place in his heart.
Additionally, Gene forged lasting friendships with individuals who became an integral part of his life. Doug (Ola) Kelly, Audrey (Michael) Bell, and Marcus (Samantha) Edwards were like family to him. Their unwavering support and friendship brought immense joy and laughter into Gene's life.
Gene's warm heart and kindness extended far beyond professional and military spheres. He deeply cherished his family and friends, finding joy in their love and companionship. He was preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Evelyn Worley Norris, as well as his beloved daughter Kimberly Norris; siblings, Elizabeth Worrill, Danny Norris, Marguerite Perkins and Raymond Norris. Their memories will forever remain alive within Gene's heart.
A visitation ceremony to honor Gene's memory will be held on August 11, 2023 at Norton Funeral Home And Crematory in Hartsville. Friends, family members, and community members are invited to pay their respects during this time of reflection and remembrance. The visitation will commence at 2:00 p.m. and conclude at 3:00 p.m., providing an opportunity for all to gather and share stories of Gene's life.
