George Jack Gainey

A Celebration of life will be held by graveside at Bethel United Methodist Church cemetery on Saturday, June 15 at 10:00 am. Family will receive friends immediately after memoriam.

George “Jack” Gainey, 71, a veteran of Korea and resident of Patrick, SC passed away on June 7, 2019. Jack recently celebrated his 71st birthday on May 24. He was excited by his birthday celebration by enjoying chocolate cake, presents and all singing “Happy Birthday” to “Uncle Jack.”

Jack was intellectually gifted, an avid reader who had a tremendous love for nature, animals and history. A very descriptive and great story teller; he was able to command anyone’s attention.

In his true appreciation for the outdoors, he loved to walk each morning with his favorite walking stick, wearing one of his various hats and most importantly his dogs. While walking, he would greet and pick up all  neighbor dogs along the way to enjoy the journey.

Not being bound by conformities of a prestigious career and successes, Jack took a several year sabbatical traveling throughout the U.S. enjoying most of that time in California. Status or material things were not his motivation. He certainly had the competency to acquire, but was just not important to him, he had no pretense to impress. Simple life and small things made him content. He was a humble, well spoken, intelligent man. He retired from work in 2012 as a waste water treatment operator from the Town of Cheraw, SC.

He was born to Mary Elizabeth and Jack Gainey, had three siblings, two of which preceded him in death, Jeannette Gainey Crowley (Billy) and William Terry Gainey. Charles Huggins (Julie) is the youngest of the three who he enduringly called “Charlie”. Incidentally, he was the only family member who referred to Charles as “Charlie”. Also members of his family are his Nephew Carl Huggins (Anna), an entourage of nieces, Cindy, Anne, Joan and Wanda. A nephew-in-law Jerry Brumley who respectfully cared for him during these last two years. Further down the family tree is an assortment of great and great-great nieces and nephews. All of whom he would always ask (by name) specifically how they were doing when the family enjoyed visits with Uncle Jack. A special mention of Jack’s friend whom he referred to as “his buddy”, David Perdue.

In closing, George “Jack” Gainey’s memory will forever live in our hearts and will be greatly missed by those he loved and those who loved him.
