George Brooks Ballard

George Brooks (Pete) Ballard, a beloved member of the Hartsville, S.C. community, passed away on August 11, 2023, at Carolina Pines RMC with his loving family by his side. He was born on March 19, 1928, in Hartsville to the late Gus Ballard and Jesse Howle Ballard.

Pete dedicated an impressive 50 years of his life to working at Sonoco Products Company before retiring. His commitment and hard work were recognized by his colleagues and earned him the respect of many. Pete was a member of the Old Timers Club.

Beyond his professional achievements, Pete found great joy in various hobbies. Woodworking was one of his passions.

Pete also had a profound love for nature and enjoyed spending time outdoors. Fishing trips were cherished moments that allowed him to unwind and connect with the tranquility of the water. Hunting expeditions were another favorite pastime, where he could immerse himself in the beauty of nature's bounty.

Camping trips with his family created memories that will be treasured forever.

Despite Pete's dedication to work and hobbies, he always made time for what mattered most - his faith and family. He was a devout member of New Providence Baptist Church, where he attended services regularly and found solace in spiritual guidance.

Pete's kind-heartedness touched the lives of many people in the community. He was known for offering a friendly smile and lending a helping hand wherever needed. His humility and generosity left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him.

In addition to his parents, Pete joins his cherished wife, Mary Allie Hall Ballard, in eternal rest. He is also preceded in death by his three brothers, Clarence Ballard, Gus Ballard Jr., and Miles Ballard.

Pete's memory lives on through his loving daughter, Barbara (Howard Ray) King of Hartsville. He was a doting grandfather to Bryan (Charlene) King, Stevie (Vickie, deceased) King, and Tina (Chad) Culpepper. Pete took immense pride in his role as a great-grandfather and leaves behind six great-grandchildren.
