Mrs. Frances Windham Best, 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, April 8th, 2023.
A graveside service will be conducted at 4:00 on Tuesday afternoon, April 11th, 2023, from the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with Reverend Becky Forrest officiating. The family will speak with friends following the service at the graveside.
Mrs. Best was born on November 10th, 1934, to the late Frank & Elizabeth Windham of Lamar, SC.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Pamela Best Flowers and Jerri Best (Rosemary Smith). Also her grandchildren, as she called them her favorite grandson, Ashley Flowers and favorite granddaughter, Carrie Buchanan (Corey). She also had two great-grandsons, Mac and Miller Buchanan.
Mrs. Best was a classic Southern Belle. She was the original Julia Sugarbaker and listening to her voice sounded like stepping into the past. She loved life and had a passion for gardening, shopping, reading, gambling, and cooking. Many knew her over the years as the original owner of Mr. B’s. After retiring and traveling across the country in her motor home, she rejoined the workforce as the hostess with the “mostest” at Pam’s Restaurant. No one made better pimento cheese, vegetable soup, biscuits and preserves! She taught her children and grandchildren how to be independent, strong, and how to play blackjack. Her laughter and smile would fill a room. She also never let you disrespect her or anyone she loved. No one wanted to be on the other end of her temper. She was always the best dressed and the most fun. Please wear a little sparkle on Tuesday to remember her.
She was predeceased by her husband, George Jeryl Best and her son-in-law, James Byrnes Flowers.
Mrs. Best was a lover of animals, especially her beloved dog, Lucy. Memorials can be made to the Darlington County Humane Society Capital Campaign, PO Box 2626, Hartsville, SC 29551. She would want all the animals to have a safe, warm home.
Norton Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to be serving the family of Mrs. Best.
