Reverand Ewell Conway Black, Jr. Rev. Ewell C Black, Jr., 90, died March 14, 2015. Mr. Black was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Wages Black. He is survived by son David W. E. Black, daughter and son-in-law Deborah B. and Timothy Reeves. Mr. Black was born in Columbia, SC, February 21, 1925, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ewell C. Black. Following 20 years with THE STATE newspaper of Columbia, SC, Mr. Black resigned in 1962. He entered Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA and was ordained a Presbyterian Minister in 1965. He was also an ordained Deacon and Elder in Covenant Presbyterian Church in Columbia, SC, prior to entering the seminary. Mr Black served congregations in Greenwood, MS, Saluda, SC, Travelers Rest, SC, and Bishopville SC, and Executative Presbyter of Harmony Presbytery in South Carolina. At his retirement from Bishopville Presbyterian Church, he was honored by the Congregation by being named Pastor Emeratous. Following retirement, Mr. Black served as Supply Minister in several congregations in South Carolina. Mr. Black served in WWII in the A.S.T.P. and the 106th Infantry Division. He was captured in the Battle of the Bulge and was a Prisoner of War being liberated April 13, 1945. A Grave-side Service will be conducted at Bishopville Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 215 S Main St., Bishopville, SC, March 19, 2015 at 1:00 pm. Visitation will be Wednesday 5-7 pm at Norton Funeral Home, Bishopville Chapel.
