Etta Marie Estep, 84, passed peacefully October 13, 2017 surrounded by the love of her family and friends. Born November 14, 1932 to Charlie and Lucy (Cupp) Hammons in Clay County, KY, she graduated from Hamilton High School (OH) in 1951 and went on to work for General Electric in Hamilton, OH. She originally moved to Hartsville in the early 80s, and was an active member of the community for many years. In the late 80s she moved to Ocala, FL where she ran her own business with her partner of 25 years, John F. Caudill. She returned to Hartsville in early 2013.
Marie, as she was affectionately known, was a firecracker of a woman who is fondly remembered by all that knew her. She had a fire in her, a spark, not often seen in a woman of her day. She was giving and kind to family and strangers alike and loved to tell her colorful stories of her adventures to any who would listen. She was beautiful, generous and incredibly strong and will be missed by all who loved her.
Left to carry on her legacy are her children: Deena (Bill) Muelenkamp of Bonita Springs, FL, Mark (Kerri) Crampton of Chula Vista, CA and Frederick (Crissi) Estep of Hartsville. Her grandchildren: Sean, Sarah and Paul Crampton of California, Jenni Munroe and Shane Bakke of California, Alexis Grooms of Charleston, SC, Gretchen Estep of Lubbock, TX, Megan Estep of Arlington, TX, and Raegen Grooms & Hannah, Will and Benjamin Estep of Hartsville, SC. She is also survived by her siblings Joy (Walter) Wiek of Burnside, KY and Clay (Jewel) Hammons of London, KY as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Bea Burchell, Bernice Burkhart, Pearl Fields, Ruby Fields and Clyde Hammons, her beloved partner John F. Caudill and her grandson, Zachary Grooms.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday in Wesley United Methodist Church. Reverend Fran Elrod will officiate with burial following in Magnolia Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service in the All Saints Hall of the church.
