Edna Young Sims

Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness.

Mrs. Edna Young Sims, 82, of Hartsville, went to her Heavenly Home on Monday morning, October 24^th, 2022, while at The Retreat at Carolina Bay.

Her service will be conducted by the graveside of Magnolia Cemetery at 3:00 on Wednesday afternoon, October 26^th, 2022, with Reverend Ken Hughes officiating.  The family will be speaking with friends following the service at the graveside.

A native of Coward, SC, Mrs. Sims was a daughter of the late, Early D. & Mazie McKnight Young.  Edna was a nurse who took her profession seriously.  After she would end her shift, she would go to folk’s homes just to help them with allergy shots or whatever medical need they had.  She will always be remembered as “the neighborhood mom” who cared for everyone. She retired from Sonoco Products Company as their nurse after many years of service.  Although Edna loved her profession, her first love was her Lord & Savior, of whom she exemplified daily.  She was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church since the early 1960’s and served in numerous committees at the church.    

Surviving are her daughters, Lori Sims (Randy) Lowe and Melode Sims (Cone) Manuel of Hartsville; grandchildren, Seth (Peyton) Lowe of Hartsville and Collin Manuel of Hartsville; great-grandchild, William James Lowe; brother, Legrande (Judy) Young; and her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and the love of her life, William Wayne Sims; and brothers, Marshall Young and Keith Young.
