Edmond Yelton

Hartsville, S.C.

Funeral service for Edmond (Eddie) J. Yelton, age 90, will be held on Thursday, November 2 at 2:00 pm at West Hartsville Baptist Church, Hartsville, SC. Rev. Bev Kennedy and Rev. Lloyd Brock will officiate. Burial will be at the Magnolia Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening, Nov. 1, 5:00-7:00 pm at Norton Funeral Home.

Eddie was born in Forest City, NC on June 2, 1927. He served in the US Navy for three years. Eddie and Annette McMahan married June 26, 1948. They were married 69 years. Eddie and Annette settled in Hartsville in 1961, and he worked as the manager of Kimbrell’s Funiture for 39 years.

Surviving are two daughters: June (Richard) Adams of Brookneal, VA and Kim (Lloyd) Brock of Pekin, IL. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Ginny (Drew) King of Raleigh, NC; Faith (Josh) Barnhouse of Murfreesboro, TN; Hope Brock of Chicago, IL and Will Brock of Chicago, IL.

Eddie loved his family and loved the Lord. He was a member of West Hartsville Baptist Church for 56 years where he served as a deacon, Sunday School superintendent and on various committees. He spent years working with World-Changers, an organization that helps the elderly and indigent in the southeast region of the US. Eddie was also known around Hartsville for helping those in need. He loved people especially children. Eddie served his community by participating on the Hartsville Planning Commission and organizing the annual Christmas parade and Christmas display. For many years he was a member of the Lions’ Club where he really enjoyed participating in the annual variety show. He had quite a “knack” for woodworking and enjoyed the Woodworkers’ Club as well. Eddie was such a diverse man that he was even a bee-keeper for short time. He enjoyed traveling and his naval ship reunions in his latter years. Once he had retired, Eddie loved working out in the yard with his annuals and tomato plants.
