Earlwood Smith

Mr. Earlwood Smith, 85, of Hartsville, went home to be with The Lord on Tuesday afternoon, June 6th, 2017.

His funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday in Emmanuel Baptist Church. Doctor Ernest Winburn, Reverend John Hamilton, and Mister Jim Privette will officiate with burial following in Magnolia Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service at the church. The family will also be having a gathering with friends following the graveside committal service at the cabin, located at 1820 Patrick Highway.

Mr. Smith was born in the Shiloh Community of Chesterfield County, a son of the late Jack & Kate McDougald Smith. Earlwood was an active member of the Lions Club where he participated each year in the onions and brooms sales. He was a lifelong member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, member of the Living Hope Sunday School class, was a past Sunday School teacher, assisted with the youth, and had many church gatherings at his house. He will be remembered as a great man, father, grandparent, great-grandparent, and friend.

Surviving are his son-in-law, Gary Privette of Hartsville; grandchildren, Hollie Privette and Weston Privette of Hartsville; and great-grandchildren, Haynes Privette and Dempsey Privette.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Jo Smith; daughters, Hope Privette and Robin Smith, a son, Earlwood Smith, Jr.; a brother, E. Jack Smith a sister, Mary Frances Smith; and his girlfriend, Shuggie Rhyne.
