Douglas Pearce

d. November 2, 2017

Hartsville, SC

Douglas (Buster) Pearce, age 80 of Hartsville SC passed away peacefully at Chesterfield Convalescent Center Thursday afternoon. Buster was born in Philadelphia, PA, but moved to Hartsville, SC as a teenager and made Hartsville his home. He was a veteran of the United States military from 1954-1957. He was proud to be a member of the Hartsville Masonic Lodge #173. He was honored to be a member of the Shriners Jolly Jeepsters because of the wonderful care they provide for children. He visited Shriner's hospitals many times to witness this firsthand.

Buster was a Master Tool & Die Maker. His skill led him to AO Smith, Weller Industries and INA Bearing where he made many friends. He also influenced two of his nephews to join the same trade, and now they each have over 25 years in the industry - all thanks to Uncle Buster. He was a loving Papa that always greeted his grandchildren with a big hug and kiss on the cheek. His love will forever shine through all of us as he will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his high school sweetheart and wife of 40 years, Peggy Parker Pearce, special aunt, Lena Pearce Griggs, who raised him as her own, and his parents Miriam Hughes and Morris Hunter Pearce. Also, special friends, Ed Saleeby, Jr. and Eddie Brewington.

He is survived by his daughter Susan (Andy) Winburn of Clio SC, grandchildren Kelsey (Blake) O'Neal of Hartsville SC, Amelia Winburn of Clio SC and Blake Winburn of Hartsville SC, nieces and nephews, who were like his children, Julian (Toni) Gainey, Renee (Mike) Gainey, Milton Gainey, Sr., all of Hartsville; Great-Nephews Jonathan (Susan) Gainey, Lexington, SC, Milton Gainey, Jr., Hartsville; Great-Nieces, Lauren (Zack) Robertson, Columbia, SC, and Brittany Gainey, Lexington, SC. and many other nieces and nephews. Special friend, WC Morris.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or Burroughs funeral home.
