It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Dorothy Powell Hickson of Bishopville on February 3, while at the McLeod Hospice House.

Graveside services will be held Thursday February 6 at 1:00 at the Ashwood Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home, Bishopville. Rev. Timmy Lee will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship building.

Mrs. Hickson was born in Sumter a daughter of the late Jasper Carl Powell and Kitty Viola Degehart Powell. She was a lifelong member of Ashwood Baptist Church. She was married to her late husband, Ray Aldrich Hickson, Sr., for 65 years and he and her farmed for 50 years the Hill Top Farms in Ashwood.

Surviving are her children, Ray Aldrich (Ricky), Jr. and his wife Donna of Bishopville, Michael A. Hickson, of Bishopville, Ted A. Hickson and wife Alice of Hartsville, Eve Hickson Strickland and husband Stan of Loris; two siblings, George (Frances) Powell of Columbia and Hilda Powell (Don) Krueger of Sumter.

Her grandchildren, Turner Hickson, Savannah Davis, Chaneng Boykin, Jordan Jacobs, Garrett Strickland, Grainger Hickson and Gage Hickson.

Her great grandchildren, Brantley, Bentley and Madyson Jacobs and Haisley Williams; Nada James Davis, Abram Redd Davis, Aubrey Raye Boykin, Charlotte "Charley" Ellison Boykin and Mills Turner Boykin. She dearly loved her many Powell's and Hickson nieces and nephews that spent many summers working on the farm.

Mrs. Hickson is also survived by the 2nd Mother and Referee to the Hickson children, Rosa Lee Jennings of Sumter, S.C. Thank you for all your years of love and devotion.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Ray Aldrich Hickson, Sr.. Siblings, J.C. Powell, Jr., Daniel T. Powell, Margaret Price, Lewis "Louie" Powell, John Powell, Beatrice Lamkin, Clara Brink and Celestine "Tiny" Mims.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Ashwood Baptist Church 1075 Lake Ashwood Road, Sumter, S.C. 29153 or the Lee County EMS, 130 Industrial Blvd., Bishopville, S.C. 29010.
