Donald "Don" Gainey

December 6, 1928 — January 27, 2022

Hartsville, S.C.

George Donald (Don) Gainey went to his Heavenly Home on January 27 at his residence with his loving family by his side. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Antioch Baptist Church. Rev. Bryant McCrae and Mr. Zach Gainey will officiate. Burial will be in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Mr. Gainey was born December 6, 1928 in Hartsville a son of the late Boyd W. Gainey and Sue Byrd Gainey. He was a lifelong member of Antioch Baptist Church.  He still had his framed Cradle Roll Certificate (93 years). One January 16, 1948 he married the love of his life Margery Shaw who passed away in 2005.

Mr. Gainey was raised on a farm and knew what hard work was. He would joke about life on the farm and spent many hours looking at the back side of a mule plowing the fields.

Mr. Gainey worked at the Hartsville Print and Dye Works as a textile printer. He was excellent at his craft.

When Antioch Baptist Church started building the new church, he spent many days helping in its construction. He loved people and after Miss Margie died he would say he was going to his office which was a bench at Walmart. He would sit and visit with people and shared Christ’s Gospel with many of them. While his body was able, he visited many shut in’s each week. He loved telling jokes and even laughed at himself before he could give us the punch line. His wisdom and humor and love will be missed. Jesus said to him “Well Done My Good and Faithful Servant”
