Don Shumate

Funeral services for Don Craig Shumate, Sr. age 64, will be held Tuesday at 3:00 at the Lakeview Baptist Church. Rev.Tom Gainey will officiate. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be Monday 5-7 pm at the funeral home.

Don was born in Hartsville a son of the late Harvey Lee and Mary Lee Shirley Shumate. He was a member of the Lakeview Baptist Church. He worked for several years with the Hartsville Police Department and the Darlington County Sheriff’s Department. He loved to ride his motorcycle, was an officer with the GWRRA. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and had a host of friends. He was a faithful patron of the Huddle House and will be missed by many.

Surviving are his wife, Diane Mullis Shumate, Hartsville; two sons, Craig (Melissa) Shumate, Hartsville and Jacob Shumate, Hartsville; two daughters, Meridith (Leigh) Shumate, Covington, GA and Loriane (Ryan) Griggs, Hartsville; one brother, Harvey Gene (Ann) Shumate, Hartsville; one sister, Mary Sue (Jimmy) Warren, Hartsville; eight grandchildren, Bryson, Averie, Sophie, Carter, Asa, Annalee, Drake and Jack; one great grandchild, Delilah.
