Mrs. Crystal Byrd Gibson, age 57 passed away November 18 while at MUSC Kershaw Health Medical Center in Camden surrounded by family and will be missed greatly. Mrs. Gibson was born in Hartsville, S.C. on October 5, 1967 the daughter of Pamela Kay Stanley and the late Carson Rochelle Byrd. She graduated from Hartsville High School in 1985, where she played on the varsity volleyball team and was MVP her senior year. She had a love for all sports, and on the weekends, you would often find her cheering for her favorite football team.
Crystal worked for many years at Darlington County Buyers Guide, where she wrote her weekly article "Life of Riley." Crystal devoted the latter part of her life to working for the Darlington and Hartsville Recreational Department.
On December 31, 1992, she married her husband of 31 years, Jessie Deleslie Gibson, Jr. and they were inseparable. Crystal loved her family and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Crystal's favorite pastimes were making memories with family, doing weekend cookouts, vacations, and anything related to the beach. Crystal also loved to go thrifting and had a knack for finding and cherishing hidden treasures. She embraced a life rich in love, surrounded by those who inspired the creation of beautiful memories that would last her lifetime and everyone she touched.
Graveside service will be held Saturday November 23 at 1:00 at the Westview Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home. Rev. Christopher Alderman will officiate. Family will receive friends following the graveside service.
Crystal is survived by her daughters, Riley Kay Gibson, Ashley (Payton) Clark; one son, Jay (Brittany) Gibson, III; grandchildren, Kalub Clark, Amelia Barnett, J.D. Gibson IV and Everett Gibson; Her mother, Pamela Stanley Byrd; Stepmother, Elaine Byrd; Parents in law, J.D. Gibson, Sr. and Rosario Gibson; brothers, Rock (Sharon) Byrd, Eric Byrd,; stepsisters, Sharon Haynes, Shannon (Ryan) Hendrix; Stepbrother, Thomas Rogers, Jr.; Sister in laws, Angela Upchurch, (brother in law Chip Upchurch) and Eva Gibson; three step-siblings and Nieces and Nephews. Crystal was preceded in death by her husband Jessie Deleslie Gibson, Jr. and her father Carson Byrd.
