Cordelia Houck Sherrill

Hartsville, S.C.

Mrs. Cordelia Houck Sherrill passed  away January 5, 2024 while at the McLeod Hospice House. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 4:00 at the Bethlehem United Methodist Church. Rev. Billy Jack Johnson and Nolan Jay Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be following the graveside service in the Fellowship Building.

Surviving are her son and daughters, John Sherrill III, Hartsville; Tarthis “Tosha” Sherrill, Hartsville; Permelia “Anna” Sherrill, Hartsville; granddaughters Blair (Spencer) Huggins, Hartsville; Amber (Ian) Dziat, Lakewood, OH; great granddaughters Everleigh Huggins, Hartsville; Kitt Dziat, Lakewood, OH and great grandson Elliott Huggins, Hartsville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John “Conrad” Sherrill Jr., daughter Jennie Lynn Sherrill, parents Joseph and Jennie Houck, brother, Dub Houck, and sister Doris Houck.

Born in Bishopville, South Carolina, Dee was a lifelong native to the city of Hartsville, spending most of her life in Byrdtown where she and Conrad raised their family. She was a graduate of Hartsville High School and a homemaker in every sense of the word. Cooking was her favorite pastime and she enjoyed nothing more than gathering around a full table in her kitchen, which was always painted her favorite color red. On any given day she could have a full course meal on the table in under 30 minutes and no guest list was too long to share it with. Apart from her love of food, Dee was a known collector of antiques and an avid estate sale attendee; she had a story for each treasure she acquired. She enjoyed the quiet pace of life at home but had a need for speed in each Buick she owned. Dee was a woman of stature in the community and very passionate about her membership as a Bethlehem Star. She had many friends she loved like family, specifically Christy Sumner, Kim Braddock, Debbie Hanna, Tamra Bramlett, Dixie Hendrix and Christina Ferguson. She will be deeply missed by all that had the honor of knowing her.

The family requests privacy at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Bethlehem United Methodist Church per Dee’s wishes.

Norton Funeral Home and Crematory is honored to serve the Sherrill family.
